The 6th Cross-Strait Sun Yat-sen Forum concluded on June 29 in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, marking the 160th anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's birth. The three-day event, themed "Carrying Forward Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Spirit of Endeavor and Working Together for the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation," drew approximately 2,000 representatives from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. Organizers noted this year's forum was the largest in its history, with the highest number of Taiwan compatriots and the greatest proportion of young participants.
During the opening ceremony, the Zhongshan Municipal People's Government and the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland signed the Strategic Framework Agreement on Deepening Zhongshan-Taiwan Economic and Trade Cooperation to Promote Integrated Development, establishing an institutional foundation for long-term industrial cooperation. Distinguished guests emphasized that Dr. Sun Yat-sen remains a shared national pioneer, and his vision for China's rejuvenation should guide cross-strait collaboration.
The forum featured cultural activities, including an evening tour of Sunwen West Road Arcade Pedestrian Street and a visit to the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, where participants paid homage to the revolutionary leader. Many attendees highlighted these events as platforms for sustained youth exchanges and spiritual integration rooted in shared cultural heritage.
Economic cooperation was a key focus, with the "Taiwan Businesses Gather in Zhongshan, Industries Glow in the Greater Bay Area" 2026 Guangdong-Taiwan Economic and Trade Exchange Conference and Investment Promotion Event. Nineteen industrial projects were signed, including seven Taiwan-invested projects in semiconductor supporting industries, electronic components, smart home products, high-end fitness equipment, and medical devices. Another 12 Shenzhen-Zhongshan collaborative projects covered new energy vehicle components, industrial robotics, memory chip packaging, advanced specialty materials, and integrated cultural, tourism, and commercial developments.
Taiwan business representatives praised Zhongshan's business environment. Zhang Congyuan, Chairman of Huali Industrial Group, which has operated in the city for over 20 years, commended the government's service philosophy of "staying out of businesses' way when everything runs smoothly while providing prompt support whenever needed." Guo Wenhai, secretary of the CPC Zhongshan Municipal Committee, invited Taiwan businesses to invest, highlighting the city's industrial infrastructure and government services. He emphasized leveraging opportunities from the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link to create broader cooperation prospects.
Participants agreed that the forum created new channels for cultural exchanges and industrial cooperation, with Zhongshan planning regular initiatives such as entrepreneurship support for young people from Taiwan, youth exchange activities, and Guangdong-Taiwan industrial matchmaking events. The city aims to carry forward Dr. Sun Yat-sen's spirit and contribute to integrated cross-strait development by embracing opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.
