Angeli Skalberg's New Children's Book Teaches Kids to Trust God's Purpose

Children's author Angeli Skalberg has released her second book, Bubs & Chubs Were Made for More, a story that uses two caterpillars to introduce young readers to a biblical understanding of purpose and trust. The book, published by Lucid Books, follows Bubs and Chubs as they move from a comfortable life of eating leaves and enjoying sunshine to a journey that requires faith in Jesus. For parents, grandparents, teachers, and caregivers, the story offers an accessible way to begin conversations about purpose, obedience, courage, and trusting God through uncertainty.

The narrative centers on Bubs, who senses that Jesus created him for something greater. Chubs, by contrast, is content with the familiar. When Bubs chooses to follow a gentle voice guiding him forward, he leaves behind what is comfortable even though the path is frightening and uncertain. His decision sets in motion a transformation that eventually leads Chubs to discover that he, too, was created for more. Inspired by Proverbs 3:5–6, the book emphasizes trusting in the Lord rather than relying solely on one's own understanding.

Skalberg writes, "Deep in his heart, Bubs feels that Jesus created him for something greater. Even when the journey feels scary and uncertain, Bubs chooses to listen to that gentle voice guiding him forward." That line captures the book's central tension between comfort and calling. Chubs represents the part of us that prefers to remain where life feels safe, while Bubs wonders whether there might be something beyond what he can currently see. Neither character knows exactly what the future holds, but Bubs discovers that trusting Jesus can open the door to a life he could never have imagined from his limited perspective.

The implications of this release extend beyond entertainment. In a culture where children are often pressured to know their path early or to rely only on what they can control, Skalberg's story offers a countermessage: you do not have to know everything that will happen next in order to trust the One who does. The book's repeated refrain, "You were MADE for MORE," is designed to stay with children long after the final page. By framing purpose as something discovered through relationship with Jesus rather than through personal achievement, the book provides a framework for discussing faith with young children in terms they can grasp.

Skalberg's own life reflects the themes she writes about. She lives in the countryside outside a small rural town in Wyoming, where she and her husband of more than 30 years have built a life centered on family and service. They have five children and many grandchildren. Her heart for service has taken her around the world, giving her opportunities to encounter different people, cultures, needs, and stories. Her first children's book, Baby Llama Has a New Mama, was inspired by the adoption of the family's youngest daughter from Ethiopia. With Bubs & Chubs Were Made for More, she continues writing stories that help children understand significant truths through warm, memorable, and accessible characters.

Lucid Books, an independent hybrid publisher in the Houston area, released the book. As a partnership publisher, Lucid Books offers the connections and expertise of a traditional publisher with the author involvement of a self-publisher. The company exists to help authors inspire, inform, and enrich the lives of their readers.

Ultimately, Bubs and Chubs remind young readers that they may not always know where Jesus is leading them. They may feel uncertain. They may even be tempted to remain exactly where they are because it feels safe. But sometimes the greatest transformation begins with the courage to trust. And sometimes discovering that you were made for more begins simply by taking the next step.
