Angkor Resources Corp. (TSXV: ANK, OTCQB: ANKOF) has reported encouraging results from the initial drilling at its Andong Bor copper-gold target in Cambodia. The company planned a 2,800-meter diamond drilling program, with the first 1,099 meters completed in mid-July on the Thmei North target, a one-square-kilometer copper anomaly. The program is staged around Cambodia's seasons, with the remaining 1,700 meters scheduled for early 2027 once fields are dry and crops harvested.
Dennis Ouellette, VP Exploration, commented: "Two of the three holes drilled this year encountered good porphyry and skarn mineralization over the 400 meters each was drilled. Portions of skarn were especially well mineralized. The third hole contained a run of over 200 meters with continuous pyrite mineralization up to 20%." This indicates the potential for a significant copper-gold system.
The drilling at Thmei North is oriented to the east to better intersect mineralized beds, based on 2025 drilling which revealed that the main structures controlling mineralization strike north-northwest and dip steeply to the west. In this modified copper porphyry model, the best mineralization is found within potassic-altered sediments adjacent to feldspar porphyry diorite dikes, which vary in width from a few meters to tens of meters. By drilling eastward, the company aims to maximize mineralized sedimentary rock interceptions as it drills through alternating lithologies.
The core from the completed drilling is being logged over the next few weeks, then cut, sampled, and sent for assays. The second phase of the Thmei North drill program and activity on Thmei South will continue in 2027. The Andong Bor license covers 100.28 square kilometers and straddles Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey provinces.
This exploration is part of Angkor Resources' broader strategy in Cambodia, where it holds two mineral exploration licenses with multiple copper and gold prospects. The company also has an onshore oil and gas license (Block VIII) covering approximately 4,095 square kilometers, where it completed 2D seismic in 2025 and identified multiple drill targets. Angkor plans to drill Cambodia's first privately financed onshore exploratory oil and gas wells under a Production Sharing Contract.
These developments are significant for Cambodia, a country with emerging mineral and energy sectors. Success at Andong Bor could attract further investment and establish Cambodia as a viable mining destination. The company's dual focus on minerals and energy underscores its commitment to unlocking the country's natural resources.
