Arius Technology, a global leader in ultra-high-resolution 3D scanning and digitization of fine art, has announced a cultural heritage project to digitize the Renaissance fresco The Resurrection by Piero della Francesca. In partnership with the Comune di Sansepolcro, Italy, owner of the Museo Civico 'Piero della Francesca,' Arius will use its proprietary color-accurate scanning technology to capture the surface detail of the centuries-old fresco with precision down to 10 microns. This initiative marks a significant milestone in digitized art and cultural conservation.
Recognized by art historians as one of the greatest works of Western art, The Resurrection will be recorded in extraordinary detail using Arius's technology. The process involves conservation-grade scanning that safely and accurately documents the fresco's surface texture and color, creating highly detailed digital records (ADMF™) for purposes of conservation, study, and restoration. Arius's technology captures both 3D surface geometry and color, producing data-rich files that can serve a wide range of purposes, from conservation analysis to museum-grade reproductions to digital files stored on the blockchain. This project represents a pivotal step forward in the long-term preservation of frescoes, which are particularly vulnerable to environmental and structural degradation.
The project will take place under a long-term partnership with the Comune di Sansepolcro, the hometown of Piero della Francesca.
