Boerne, Texas, has been selected as one of 25 communities nationwide in Hallmark Channel's 2026 Merriest Christmas Town contest, making it the only Texas community among this year's finalists. The voting period is open now through Friday, September 4, and participants can vote for Boerne once per day. The recognition highlights what residents and visitors have long known: during the holiday season, Boerne's combination of small-town charm, community traditions and festive events transforms a stroll along the historic Hill Country Mile into the feeling of stepping into a Christmas movie.
"At the center of the celebration are the people who are part of our wonderful community," Boerne Mayor Frank Ritchie said. "That sense of community is what has helped Boerne build a reputation as a Texas Hill Country destination throughout the holiday season." Among Boerne's signature holiday traditions is Dickens on Main, which transforms the Hill Country Mile during Thanksgiving weekend with live entertainment, holiday activities and Victorian-inspired characters and decorations.
"What makes Christmas in Boerne so special is that it's truly a community effort," Visit Boerne Marketing Specialist Tori Bellos said. "Our role is to help visitors discover everything that makes Boerne unique while making sure our local businesses have the information and resources they need to welcome them." The celebration continues throughout the Christmas season with Weihnachts Weekend and the annual nighttime Weihnachts Parade and Kinder Fest, along with holiday markets, shopping events and other festivities throughout December.
But Boerne's selection is about more than lights, decorations and events. "It is no mystery, a key component of the community's Christmas celebration is the local businesses, volunteers, organizations and residents who help bring the season to life each year," Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kim Blohm said. "Our small business owners welcome visitors, neighbors share longtime traditions and families gather along the Hill Country Mile to create the kind of personal, small-town Christmas experience that has become synonymous with Boerne."
Boerne doesn't try to be the biggest Christmas destination. Instead, the community has built its holiday traditions around what makes Boerne special year-round: its historic Hill Country Mile, locally owned businesses, Texas Hill Country setting and a welcoming spirit that invites visitors to feel like part of the community. This finalist status could bring significant attention to Boerne, potentially boosting tourism and local economy during the holiday season. The contest's outcome will be decided by public vote, and the winning town will be featured in Hallmark Channel's holiday programming, offering a unique opportunity for Boerne to showcase its festive charm to a national audience.
