Industrial heat generation accounts for approximately 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, surpassing the combined pollution from all cars, planes, and ships worldwide. Despite this, efforts to reduce emissions from industrial processes like steel, cement, and glass production have largely overlooked the heat component. Traditional electrification faces challenges such as grid constraints, high costs, and difficulty reaching ultra-high temperatures, while fossil fuel combustion remains environmentally damaging.
Brenmiller Energy Ltd. (NASDAQ: BNRG) is emerging as a key player in thermal energy storage (TES) technology, aiming to disrupt the industrial heat market with its bGen TES platform. The patented solid-state heat battery uses crushed volcanic rock to store low-cost renewable electricity as high-temperature heat, releasing it on demand as zero-emission steam, hot water, or air. By avoiding critical battery metals and using abundant materials, customers can charge the system when electricity prices are low and use stored energy during peak demand periods.
To address upfront costs, Brenmiller recently introduced BNRG360, an energy-as-a-service model where the company develops, owns, and operates the integrated clean energy systems. This allows customers to adopt thermal energy storage without significant capital investment. Under this model, Brenmiller transitions from equipment supplier to integrated energy infrastructure provider, generating recurring revenues through long-term service agreements. This strategic shift is designed to deepen customer relationships and capture greater long-term value as the installed base grows.
The TES market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10% through 2032, reaching nearly $14 billion, driven by rising electricity consumption, industrial electrification, grid modernization, renewable energy penetration, and energy security concerns. Additionally, the expansion of AI and data centers is increasing demand for flexible energy systems.
Brenmiller is proving its technology in real-world applications, notably with Tempo Beverages Ltd. The 32-megawatt-hour TES installation supplies continuous industrial process steam, fully replacing the site's fossil fuel boiler-based heat production and eliminating approximately 6,200 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. The system began delivering steam in June 2026. This project is expected to serve as a commercial reference and blueprint for future industrial decarbonization deployments worldwide.
Looking ahead, Brenmiller focuses on growth, cash flow improvement, and sustainable profitability. As more customers adopt the BNRG360 platform and additional projects are commissioned, the company aims to solidify its position in the industrial heat market. The industrial sector's need for alternative energy sources positions thermal energy storage as a viable solution, with Brenmiller at the forefront of helping companies decarbonize.
