DesignInspire 2025, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), returns from 3 to 6 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The opening day features an exclusive VIP preview, followed by free entry for industry professionals and the public from 4 to 6 December. Under the theme 'Where Connections Spark Inspiration,' the event brings together over 250 exhibitors from 13 countries and regions, showcasing design excellence and fostering cross-cultural dialogue.
This year, Maison&Objet returns as the Strategic Partner under the identity Maison&Objet Intérieurs Hong Kong 2025, with a nearly doubled exhibition area. It features three core sections: 'Design Factory,' 'Design Showcase,' and 'Le Club,' centred on the theme 'Crossroads.' Highlights include curatorial projects by Belgian designer Lionel Jadot and Thai bamboo artist Korakot Aromdee, as well as works from renowned French designer Hubert Le Gall and Hong Kong architect Steve Leung. The event also presents the Maison&Objet Design Showcase Award 2025, co-presented by France’s Mobilier National.
International design master Alan Chan and emerging artist Chilai Howard have designed two cross-cultural pavilions: BOTTEGA HONG KONG and TINY STUDIO. BOTTEGA HONG KONG, designed by Alan Chan along with UNVEIL and Su Chang Design Research Office, blends Italy’s alimentari culture with Hong Kong’s local 'si dor' corner shops. It features 15 brands from both places, including Italian furniture powerhouses Moroso and Minotti, and Venetian glass artist Lucia Massari. A standout collaboration between Italy’s Francesco Maglia and Hong Kong’s Leung So Kee creates a bespoke umbrella adorned with both city skylines. TINY STUDIO, curated by Chilai Howard, brings together 12 design collectives from Hong Kong and Italy, presenting cross-disciplinary works that blend design, art, and technology. Highlights include a collaborative sculpture by Hong Kong artist Danny Lee Chin-fai and Italian sculptor Francesca Bernardini, and an audiovisual piece by music producer Edward Chan and visual production studio (Re).
DesignInspire also hosts global pavilions from the Chinese Mainland, Czechia, Macao, and Taiwan, offering diverse design perspectives. The Czech Pavilion celebrates Bohemian glass tradition, while the SHOP Zone features curated design and art pieces for purchase. Hong Kong fragrance brand Floriography joins as the first official 'Scent Partner,' adding a sensory dimension. Leading local institutions like the Hong Kong Design Institute and Hong Kong Design Centre showcase student works and award-winning pieces. Exhibitor GERI, an intelligent textile technology company, debuts a new series of smart handbags in collaboration with graphic design master Kan Tai-keung.
The InnoTalks series features 14 sessions on topics such as creative collectibles, IP development, AI applications, and inclusive design, with internationally renowned designers and industry experts. Creative workshops are also available for public participation. Concurrent events include the Business of IP Asia Forum, Entrepreneur Day, and Start-up Express: International Edition 2025, providing networking and business matching opportunities.
HKTDC Assistant Executive Director Anna Cheung stated: 'DesignInspire has long been a flagship event, driving the growth of our creative industries and strengthening connections between local designers and the global community. This year’s edition brings together two iconic figures – Alan Chan and Chilai Howard – who each design thematic pavilions capturing a dialogue between Hong Kong’s creative energy and Italy’s refined design culture.'
