DownTown Mystic, the US roots rocker, is set to release the On E Street Remix EP on April 3 via Sha-La Music, distributed worldwide by The Orchard/Sony Music. The six-track EP features the rhythm section of Bruce Springsteen's legendary E Street Band—drummer "Mighty" Max Weinberg and bassist Garry Tallent—in a rare recording session for an artist other than Springsteen. The EP includes the thought-provoking "Way To Know," the emotionally intense "And You Know Why," and the lead single "Hard Enough," whose video has surpassed 550,000 views on YouTube. Also featured are "Sometimes Wrong," remastered by Leon Zervos, and the instrumental "And You Know Why (TV Mix)."
Recorded during the same period Weinberg and Tallent were shaping Springsteen's seminal album Born In The USA, the EP carries historical weight. DownTown Mystic, the project of writer/producer Robert Allen, revisited the recordings at Shorefire Studios with engineer Joe DeMaio to remix the tracks. Allen noted, "I was trying to develop as a solo artist when we made these recordings. The experience of playing with Max & Garry changed everything for me." The EP follows a string of successful releases for DownTown Mystic, beginning with the AmeriKarma album in 2023, which amassed over 3 million streams. Subsequent albums RnR 4 The Soul (2024), The Wish (2025), and Mystic Highway (2025) expanded his audience, while sync licensing placements in over 250 TV shows and films like Sovereign and Everything's Going To Be Great boosted his profile.
The On E Street Remix EP is set to drop at Non-Com/College Radio on April 7 with Brandon Day/Tinderbox Music handling radio promotion. Allen's goal was to showcase the brilliance of Weinberg and Tallent while giving the tracks a fresh sound. Critics have praised DownTown Mystic's approach: Stereo Stickman noted he "kicks up a classic vibe," while College Radio Charts highlighted his ability to make rock & roll "that remembers where it came from while still sounding alive." Jamsphere Magazine attributed his sync success to "songwriting that translates across contexts," and The Big Takeover remarked that he "demonstrably keeps the very best company."
