Eco Expo Asia 2026, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, will be held from 26 to 29 October at AsiaWorld-Expo. The expo's 21st edition, themed "Connecting the World for a Sustainable Future," underscores Hong Kong's ambition to become a leading hub for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) business and green technology amidst a global push for carbon neutrality.
The significance of this year's expo lies in its expanded international reach and the release of the HKTDC ESG Index 2026, which climbed to 67.3 from 64.2 last year, well above the neutral threshold of 50. This rise reflects growing corporate confidence in Hong Kong's role as an ESG hub. According to the survey, 93% of respondents have integrated ESG into their business decision-making, and the share of businesses sourcing or selling ESG-related products rose from 29% in 2025 to 46% in 2026. These figures indicate that ESG has evolved from a compliance requirement into a competitive advantage, positioning Hong Kong to unlock commercial opportunities across finance, professional services, and innovation and technology.
The expo will host over 340 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions, with first-time participants from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. A new ASEAN Pavilion featuring 13 green technology companies from eight member countries will debut, alongside a first-ever Qinghai Pavilion from the Chinese Mainland. Other returning pavilions include Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, and the US State of Illinois. The Hong Kong Pavilion, supported by the Environmental Protection Department, will feature 19 local exhibitors, while the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation leads 11 start-ups.
Four thematic areas will spotlight green innovation: Green Energy in Motion, Frontier Green Tech, Building for a Greener City, and From Waste to Worth. Notable exhibits include EcoCeres Ltd.'s renewable sustainable aviation fuel, Stellerus Technology's Multi-Spectral Imaging Carbon Observatory (MUSICO) already deployed on China's Tiangong space station, and Green AI Technology's unmanned recycling station REV. These innovations demonstrate how research is being translated into practical environmental solutions, aligning with Hong Kong's First Five-Year Plan for a green and liveable city.
Over 30 forums and seminars will bring together more than 80 government officials and industry leaders. The Eco Asia Conference will feature experts such as Professor Su Hui from HKUST and Avinash Persaud, Special Advisor on Climate Change to the President of the Inter-American Development Bank. The event also includes the first Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference co-hosted by the Environment and Ecology Bureau and China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
