The fifth International Healthcare Week, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will take place from 11 to 31 May, featuring two flagship events: the sixth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair. These events aim to highlight Hong Kong's role as a medical technology and investment hub, offering a comprehensive platform covering the entire medical and healthcare industry chain.
Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, stated that the medical and healthcare landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, and Hong Kong, leveraging its status as an international financial centre and world-class research ecosystem, serves as an ideal platform for scientific excellence, strategic investment, and international trade. The events align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on high-growth areas such as biopharmaceuticals, AI-empowered healthcare, the silver economy, and modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.
The ASGH, themed "Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs," will convene international health officials, experts, and investors. Notable speakers include 2013 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, Professor Michael Levitt, who will share his journey in scientific discovery. The summit will cover topics such as pandemic preparedness, AI in healthcare, and the silver economy. The InnoHealthShowcase will present innovations from 180 companies across 11 countries and regions.
The Medical Fair, themed "Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience," will gather 300 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions. It will feature seven zones, including Hospital Equipment and Digital Health, Biotechnology and Lab Diagnostics, and Rehabilitation and Elderly Care. Highlights include a smart health wearable watch integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an augmented reality surgical platform for orthopaedic surgeons, and a world-first smart knee brace using AI and wearable technology.
Both events will adopt an "EXHIBITION+" hybrid model, with the physical fairs at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and online business matching via the "Click2Match" platform. The International Healthcare Week aims to promote innovation and investment exchange in the Asian healthcare industry, driving Hong Kong's development as a regional medical innovation hub.
