FingerMotion Inc. (NASDAQ: FNGR) has taken a significant step toward establishing a presence in the artificial intelligence infrastructure sector by signing a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lyken AI Computing Inc. (Lyken.AI) and BlueFlare Energy Solutions Inc. The agreement outlines a preferred, non-exclusive framework for matching enterprise AI and high-performance computing (HPC) demand with potential modular behind-the-meter (BTM) capacity evaluated or developed under FingerMotion's existing BlueFlare alliance.
The collaboration, initially focused on the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, positions FingerMotion as the owner-operator and project sponsor, BlueFlare as the Western Canadian development partner, and Lyken as the customer-facing demand and managed-services layer. This structure is designed to streamline the development of AI-ready data centers by aligning energy generation directly with computing needs.
According to the company, its BlueFlare relationship has evolved from a single-project discussion to a multi-site development program. FingerMotion is also in discussions with multiple natural gas suppliers and midstream counterparties regarding potential firm supply arrangements for the planned BTM generation. However, the company emphasized that no definitive gas supply agreement, capacity commitment, customer contract, project financing, or expected revenue has been established. Each project will be evaluated individually, subject to financing, site control, supply, customer commitments, regulatory approvals, and other conditions.
This move comes amid a surge in demand for AI computing power, which has led to a scramble for energy resources to power data centers. By integrating energy generation with AI infrastructure, FingerMotion aims to address one of the key bottlenecks in AI expansion: reliable and cost-effective power. The BTM model allows for energy generation to be located close to the data center, potentially reducing transmission losses and ensuring a stable power supply.
FingerMotion, known primarily for its mobile payment and recharge platform in China, is diversifying into the AI infrastructure space. The company's core business continues to grow, and it is developing additional value-added technologies to market to its users. The vision is to rapidly grow its user base and create an ecosystem of highly engaged users, with the eventual goal of serving over 1 billion users in China and expanding to other markets.
The MOU is a preliminary step, and the company has not yet secured any definitive agreements. The success of this initiative will depend on the ability to secure financing, site control, gas supply, and customer commitments, as well as obtaining regulatory approvals. The company is exploring opportunities in Western Canada, a region with abundant natural gas resources and a growing tech sector.
