Gerresheimer, a global partner for the pharma, biotech and cosmetic industries, has once again been awarded Gold by sustainability rating provider EcoVadis. The company improved its overall score from 78 in 2025 to 82 out of 100 points in the latest assessment, placing it among the top 5% of all companies rated by EcoVadis and within the top 2% in its industry. The recognition matters because it signals to customers, investors and regulators that Gerresheimer is delivering on its sustainability commitments, particularly as supply chain responsibility becomes a decisive factor in winning contracts with pharmaceutical and biotech clients.
EcoVadis evaluates more than 175,000 companies each year across four dimensions: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Gerresheimer has relied on EcoVadis since 2011, achieving Gold status for the first time in 2022 with a score of 68. The steady improvement to 82 reflects the company’s consistent implementation of its sustainability targets. Notably, Gerresheimer ranks in the top 1% for sustainable procurement, underscoring the importance of responsible supply chains for its overall performance. This is particularly relevant for a company that sources materials globally and must meet increasingly stringent environmental and social standards from its customers.
“With the improved EcoVadis rating and our first voluntary report based on the CSRD, we are making our sustainability performance measurable and transparent for our customers,” said Wolf Lehmann, CFO of Gerresheimer AG. “We remain committed to consistently pursuing our ambitious sustainability targets in the future.” The reference to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is significant: Gerresheimer has, for the first time, voluntarily submitted an audited, non-financial consolidated report based on the CSRD for the 2025 financial year, advancing the structure of its sustainability reporting. The report is available for download here.
The EcoVadis methodology is based on internationally recognized standards, including the UN Global Compact, ILO conventions, GRI standards, ISO 26000, the CERES Principles, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. This broad framework means the rating is not a niche label but a comprehensive assessment that customers and partners use to evaluate ESG risk. Gerresheimer also discloses relevant data annually on the EcoVadis platform and as part of the CDP rating, and its sustainability performance is evaluated by MSCI, Sustainalytics, and ISS. An overview of these external assessments is available here.
The implications extend beyond reputation. For Gerresheimer, which generated revenues of around EUR 2.3 billion in 2025 and employs over 13,000 people across 39 production sites, a top-tier EcoVadis rating can be a competitive advantage when bidding for contracts with pharmaceutical companies that are themselves under pressure to demonstrate responsible sourcing. The improved score also supports the company’s ambitious targets in climate protection, circular economy, responsible supply chains, and social responsibility. With clear performance indicators, transparent reporting, and independent assessments, Gerresheimer is positioning itself to document progress comprehensively and compare it with international benchmarks. As sustainability regulations tighten, particularly in Europe, the ability to provide audited, CSRD-aligned data may become as important as the products themselves.
