hep global Advances 35.7 MWp Buckelacker Solar Park, Its Largest German Project to Date

hep global has completed the development phase of its largest solar project in Germany to date, a 35.7 MWp solar park named Buckelacker in Eppingen, near its headquarters in Guglingen. The project, spanning approximately 30 hectares, is now entering construction and is expected to generate about 38 million kilowatt-hours of solar power annually, enough to theoretically meet the annual energy needs of roughly 10,800 households. The electricity will be fed into the regional grid via a newly constructed substation at Hohenstein, according to the company.

The significance of this milestone extends beyond its size. For hep global, a specialist in solar project development, Buckelacker represents the culmination of more than 15 years of international experience brought back to its home region. “This project is something special for us. It combines the development of a local solar project with the experience we have gained in various markets around the world,” said Benjamin Brasch, Manager of Project Development for South-West Germany at hep global. “The fact that we have developed our largest German solar project to date in the immediate vicinity of our headquarters also underscores our long-term commitment to the region.”

A key feature of the project is an integrated green energy storage system with a capacity of 20.3 MWh and an output of 10 MW. This battery system allows solar power to be temporarily stored and then fed into the grid during periods of higher electricity prices, increasing the economic benefits of the generated electricity. Such storage integration is increasingly important as renewable energy penetration grows, helping to stabilize grids and maximize revenue for project operators.

Construction work, coordinated by ZaberSolar GmbH, is set to begin immediately, with completion expected in the first half of 2027. The project’s advancement highlights hep global’s strategic focus on greenfield developments and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company, which employs around 120 people worldwide with subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, Poland, the USA, Canada, and Japan, continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio. The Buckelacker project also underscores the growing trend of coupling utility-scale solar with storage in Germany, where grid operators and policymakers seek to integrate higher shares of renewables. By locating its largest German project near its headquarters, hep global reinforces its regional ties while demonstrating the scalability of its development model. The successful completion of this phase positions the company to further contribute to Germany’s energy transition, with the storage component potentially serving as a blueprint for future projects. As the construction phase begins, industry observers will watch whether this integrated approach yields the expected economic and operational benefits, potentially influencing similar developments across Europe.
