HITN Media’s preschool streaming platform Edye and wellness brand Vida y Salud are presenting a Spanish-language townhall, Los niños y el tiempo en pantalla (Children and Screen Time), to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of modern parenting: the relationship between preschoolers and electronic devices. The program airs Sunday, September 13 at 8:00pm EDT/PDT on HITN TV and will be available for free on HITNGO so families can watch on demand.
Hosted by journalist Nathalia Ortiz, the townhall features developmental and behavioral pediatrician Dr. Nidsy Mejía Roque and pediatric neuropsychologist Dr. Fernanda Lucchese-Lobato. They discuss expert testimonials and in-person surveys conducted by parenting blogger Mariela Irala. The program also includes insights from Dr. Thresia Gambon, spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP); Matías Dodel, PhD, professor at the Catholic University of Uruguay; and Lina Acosta Sandaal, a development expert and founder of Stop Parenting Alone.
This initiative matters because it moves beyond simple screen-time limits to address the quality and context of digital experiences. The AAP guidelines encourage families to consider what children watch, whether they view alone or with others, and what activities are displaced. By avoiding guilt and offering constructive answers, the townhall empowers parents to make informed decisions. As Guillermo Sierra, EVP and Head at HITN Media, stated, “This issue is urgent and highly relevant to our Latino audiences: the trends we see in the United States often set the tone globally, and parents need to be empowered with clear, evidence-based information that is guilt free.”
The program poses key questions: Is it just about screen time, or does content matter too? How do viewing habits and accompaniment shape experience? When should adults step in, and how can limits be set without conflict? These questions reflect a growing recognition that digital media can be a positive tool when used intentionally. HITN Media and its brands Vida y Salud and Edye join forces to provide trusted content on health, wellness, and child development. Vida y Salud, through VidaySalud.com and as a programming block on HITN TV, offers articles, videos, and medical resources. Edye, a Spanish-language preschool platform, supports the mission with practical resources and evidence-based guidance.
This is the first of many initiatives HITN will roll out on this topic. “We want to lead the movement, initiate a critically important conversation, and empower parents to manage this challenge for the benefit of their children,” added Sierra. The townhall’s implications extend beyond the broadcast: it signals a shift toward supporting families in building healthier relationships with technology, emphasizing presence over perfection. For Hispanic families, who often face unique cultural and linguistic barriers, this Spanish-language resource is particularly vital. By providing free access through HITNGO and aligning with AAP recommendations, HITN Media addresses a critical gap in early childhood digital wellness, helping parents navigate screens without constant conflict.
