Hong Kong Jewellery Shows Draw 80,000 Buyers, Highlighting Growth in ASEAN and Korean Markets

The 42nd Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and the 12th Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), concluded successfully, drawing approximately 80,000 buyers from 150 countries and regions. The twin shows, held under a “Two Shows, Two Venues” format, featured about 4,000 exhibitors from over 40 countries and regions. The Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show welcomed over 28,000 buyers, while the Jewellery Show attracted more than 51,000 attendees. Notably, buyer attendance from the Philippines, Korea, Australia, and Switzerland recorded significant growth, reflecting the strong international appeal of the events.

Jenny Koo, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, stated that over 30 industry seminars and events were held, keeping professionals informed of the latest market trends. Three new pavilions debuted: the Hard Pure Gold Pavilion, the Zhushan Turquoise Pavilion, and the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Pavilion. An on-site survey of 1,509 exhibitors and buyers revealed cautious optimism, with 44.3% expecting sales growth in the next one to two years. Respondents identified Korea (73.2%), ASEAN (71.8%), and the Chinese Mainland (68.5%) as markets with strong growth potential for jewellery products. Technological advancements in AI (66.1%), social media (43.7%), and big data (41.5%) are expected to impact the industry significantly over the next three years.

The World Gold Council led 10 Chinese Mainland exhibitors to launch the Hard Pure Gold Pavilion, which became a major highlight. Regional CEO Roland Wang noted that the show has helped Chinese gold manufacturers connect with international buyers, with a focus on developing markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and India. Affordable, lightweight hard pure gold pieces are attracting younger middle-class consumers. Exhibitors like YueHao Jewellery from Shenzhen reported establishing connections with Southeast Asian markets, including Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Sales exceeded expectations for many exhibitors. Korean exhibitor Soyou connected with buyers from the Chinese Mainland, Africa, and the UK, expecting a 30% sales increase. Hong Kong’s SimStar Asia Limited secured several orders from Europe and the US, with total transactions in the millions of dollars. Turkish exhibitor Zen Diamond saw interest from UK and US buyers on the first day. The Hall of Fame grew by over 40% this year.

Designer jewellery gained traction, with over 50 designer exhibitors, including 10 Korean designers making their debut. A seminar by Trendvision Jewellery + Forecasting explored personalization trends for younger consumers. Three design competitions were held, including the inaugural International Fei Cui Jewellery Design Competition.

Uzbekistan made its debut appearance, with Fonon Jewelry House showcasing gold pieces with Central Asian influences. Alisher Romanov, Head of Foreign Economic Affairs, stated the company aims to use Hong Kong as a springboard for Asian expansion, expecting sales of approximately USD 50 million. Another Uzbek exhibitor received a USD 35 million order from a Hong Kong buyer. The Uzbekistan delegation signed an MOU with the HKTDC and the Hong Kong Jewellery Manufacturers' Association to promote bilateral trade.

Buyers sought diverse offerings. Turkish buyer Kasapoglu Jewellery allocated a procurement budget of over USD 900,000 for new loose diamond suppliers. US-based David Abraham & Co. met with 35 exhibitors in one day. China National Gold Group sourced turquoise and fine jewellery, with a total procurement budget of USD 200,000. Latin American buyer Golden Silver Z.L S.A. confirmed silver jewellery orders exceeding USD 1.9 million.

The HKTDC facilitated over 100 online business matching sessions for buyers unable to attend due to geopolitical issues. The EXHIBITION+ hybrid format allowed continued online discussions via the HKTDC Marketplace App. E-commerce partnerships with Taobao Tmall and Douyin generated over 35 million online impressions and sales exceeding USD 20 million. A Korean influencer sourced nearly USD 700,000 in products.
