Hong Kong-Led Delegation to Canada Boosts Mainland Enterprises' Global Expansion

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), a member of the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global (GoGlobal Task Force), will lead a seven-day delegation to Canada starting September 20. The mission aims to support Mainland enterprises in expanding their global business and to attract Canadian companies in strategic sectors to invest in Hong Kong.

The delegation, led by Ms Loretta Lee, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, will include Chinese Mainland companies specializing in sustainability and life and health sciences. The visit will cover Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, focusing on helping these enterprises understand local ecosystems and align their global expansion needs. According to Invest Hong Kong, the initiative is part of outbound missions supervised by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development.

Ms Lee highlighted Canada's strengths: "Canada is globally recognised for its exceptional research talent, clean technology leadership, and established life sciences ecosystem. As more Mainland green technology and life and health sciences enterprises pursue international growth through Hong Kong, they bring not only capital and access to one of the world's largest markets, but also serve as ideal partners for Canadian companies seeking to explore Asia and beyond. We are keen to build fresh synergies with Canadian businesses to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and investment flows."

The delegation will engage with local institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. It will also hold targeted discussions with leading Canadian green tech and healthcare enterprises, visit universities and research parks, and participate in sector-specific roundtables and business networking sessions. These activities are designed to create concrete opportunities for collaboration and investment.

This mission matters because it underscores Hong Kong's role as a super-connector between Mainland China and global markets. By facilitating Mainland enterprises' expansion into Canada, the visit not only helps these companies access North American markets but also positions Hong Kong as a gateway for Canadian businesses seeking to tap into Asia's growth. The focus on sustainability and life sciences aligns with global trends and highlights the strategic sectors where Hong Kong and Canada can complement each other.

Moreover, the delegation reflects broader efforts to strengthen economic ties amid shifting global dynamics. As Mainland enterprises increasingly look outward, Hong Kong's unique advantages under "one country, two systems" make it an ideal partner for Canadian firms aiming to enter Asia. The visit could lead to increased investment flows, technology exchange, and joint ventures, benefiting all parties involved.
