The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is bringing its flagship promotional campaign, Think Business, Think Hong Kong (TBTHK), to Kuala Lumpur on 11 August, aiming to connect Malaysian businesses with regional and global opportunities. The full-day symposium at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur will gather business leaders, investors, innovators, and policymakers from both markets to explore cross-border partnerships and investment prospects.
As Malaysia pursues goals under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, including industrial transformation and sustainability, Hong Kong positions itself as an ideal partner. Leung Kwan Ho, HKTDC’s Regional Director of South East Asia & South Asia, emphasized that Hong Kong serves as a superconnector and super value-adder, enabling Malaysian companies to access opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the wider China market. The event will feature discussions on RMB internationalisation, green innovations, and healthcare solutions, reflecting Malaysia’s evolving economic priorities.
Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia, will be guests of honour. Around 30 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups will showcase their products in the Business Support Zone and InnoVenture Salon, with one-on-one business consultations and on-site matching to facilitate deals.
A delegation of about 100 government officials and business leaders from sectors like finance, innovation, and professional services will explore opportunities through networking and meetings. The programme also includes a Hong Kong Luncheon to foster connections.
Malaysia and Hong Kong share strong economic ties. In 2025, Malaysia was Hong Kong’s third-largest trading partner among ASEAN states. Hong Kong was Malaysia’s second-largest investor after Singapore, with cumulative FDI of US$34.8 billion by end-2025 and net FDI flow of US$1.6 billion in the same year.
