HS-Soft AG Partners with Rubean to Integrate Card Payments into Bakery Till Systems

The Swiss company HS-Soft AG has chosen Munich-based FinTech firm Rubean AG as its SoftPOS partner, aiming to replace traditional card readers by integrating payment acceptance directly into modern till systems. The partnership, announced via NEWMEDIAWIRE, supports local card systems such as girocard alongside Mastercard and Visa. HS-Soft AG has been the market leader in software and till systems for bakeries, patisseries, and confectioners in the DACH region for 39 years, serving over 700 businesses with more than 4,000 till stations.

The core of the announcement is the elimination of separate card terminals. Heiner Schriever, founder and CEO of HS-Soft, explained the current pain point: “At many bakery counters today, there are two devices side by side: the till and the card terminal, each with its own cable, its own contract and its own maintenance.” With Rubean’s SoftPOS technology, the terminal becomes an app on the till. “This means: one less device, lower costs, and every new till can accept cards straight away, without the need to have a separate terminal delivered and set up first,” Schriever added. Customers simply hold their card or mobile phone up to the till screen, which also displays their shopping.

This integration matters because it directly addresses operational inefficiencies in a high-volume, fast-turnover retail environment. Bakeries often face morning queues that stretch to the door, and a single-device checkout can speed up transactions while reducing hardware, maintenance, and contract overhead. For HS-Soft, embedding payments into its till software strengthens its offering to existing customers and makes every new till card-ready out of the box, potentially accelerating adoption across its network of over 4,000 stations.

For Rubean, the partnership represents a significant scaling opportunity in a niche but dense vertical. Stephan Kück, co-CEO of Rubean, stated: “Together with HS-Soft, we’re creating a new checkout experience for bakeries and their customers.” Rubean’s platform is designed to enable merchants, partners, and integrators to accept card payments on mobile devices via its SoftPOS app, supporting local and global card systems with high availability, scalability, and security. The company notes that after years of investment in research and development, its solution is in daily use in large-scale deployments and is now entering a next phase of development and scaling. The broader implication is a further step toward software-defined point-of-sale, where payment acceptance is no longer a separate hardware category but a feature of the till itself. For small and medium-sized merchants in the DACH region, this could lower the barrier to accepting card and mobile payments, simplify vendor management, and reduce counter clutter. The success of the rollout will depend on merchant adoption and the reliability of the SoftPOS app in daily bakery operations, but the choice of the DACH market leader in bakery till systems gives Rubean a substantial installed base to prove the model at scale.
