On September 7, Huawei unveiled the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN, a tri-fold smartphone that introduces the LogicFolding Tau (τ) Chip, a milestone as the chip enters mass commercialization. This device is also the first to be powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, showcasing significant performance and efficiency gains.
The Mate XT 2 features a wing-like tri-fold design that opens from both sides, with a design inspired by Chinese aesthetics. The back panel uses Brocade Cloud craftsmanship, and the camera ring is crafted from Yttrium Crystal, fired at 1,800°C and polished to create 33 star diamond facets. Available in Purple, White, and Black, the phone combines elegance with durability.
The device boasts the Xuanwu Ultra-Durable Tri-Fold Architecture, which includes a re-engineered hinge and screen technology. It is the first tri-fold phone to support IP58/59 dust and water resistance. The cover screen uses Xuanwu Kunlun Glass with anti-glare technology, while the main screen features a multi-layer composite with UTG glass and aerospace-grade steel for enhanced impact resistance.
Performance-wise, the Kirin 9050 Pro chip delivers a 42% improvement in overall performance compared to the previous generation. The LinxiCore CPU and Ultra-smooth Ark Engine enable faster loading and multitasking. The Maleoon GPU doubles computing units and cache, supporting hardware-level real-time ray tracing at 50 MRPS. The NPU, based on Da Vinci Architecture, natively supports the Pangu 30B-A2B MoE LLM, enhancing on-device AI capabilities.
The phone includes an innovative heat dissipation system with ultra-large vapor chambers and graphene materials. It supports 5A connectivity, Tiantong satellite communication, and Beidou satellite messaging. Security is bolstered by a Mobile Security Processor and independent security chip, with post-quantum cryptography detection and EAL5+ certification.
The Mate XT 2 introduces the industry's first foldable Smart Shield Privacy Screen, offering hardware-level privacy protection. It features dual-pixel design and intelligent sensing, providing reminders in sensitive areas. The device also includes ECG analysis software, having obtained NMPA Class II Medical Device Registration, allowing users to perform electrocardiograms by holding the unfolded screen.
Photography is enhanced with True-to-Color Camera 3.0, which improves color reproduction by 95%. The camera system includes an ultra-HDR main camera, periscope telephoto, and ultra-wide angle lenses, with video recording supporting an 18 EV dynamic range. XMAGE SmartCapture offers scene recognition and AIGC previews, while the tri-fold form enables Desk-calendar mode for convenient shooting.
Running HarmonyOS 7, the device redefines large-screen experiences with Live-Multitask, allowing three parallel windows with adjustable sizes and independent volume. It is deeply integrated with industry-leading apps, fostering innovation in the tri-fold ecosystem.
