Hunger Walk Run Returns to Atlanta to Combat Rising Food Insecurity

The Atlanta Community Food Bank's annual Hunger Walk Run is set for Sunday, March 15, 2026, from Noon to 4 p.m. at The Home Depot Backyard in Atlanta. Now in its 42nd year, the hybrid 5K event also offers a virtual option, with registration and donation opportunities currently open. Since its inception in 1984, the event has raised more than $16 million, enough to provide over 48 million meals.

Each participant makes a significant impact: every walker helps provide 90 meals, and each runner helps provide 120 meals for neighbors in need. The Atlanta Community Food Bank reports that demand for food assistance is at its highest since the pandemic, making this year's event particularly critical. "Hunger Walk Run is a highly anticipated event that rallies thousands from our community to take steps toward fighting hunger," said Kyle Waide, President & CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. "Every person who participates, whether on-site or virtually, helps make a difference."

The family-friendly 5K welcomes individuals of all ages and abilities, with options to join as individuals, families, groups, or teams. Festivities include music, food vendors, warm-ups, and a Kids Zone featuring bounce houses, slides, interactive characters, and age-appropriate learning activities. The event proceeds rain or shine.

For those unable to attend in person, the virtual Hunger Walk Run allows participation from anywhere. Participants can walk in their neighborhood, on a treadmill, or even spin on a bike. The event page highlights outdoor trails, and participants are encouraged to share their involvement on social media by tagging @ACFB and using the hashtag #HWR2026.

Online registration is available through 12 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Rates are $30 for walkers, $40 for runners, $25 for virtual participants who pick up their shirts, and $32 for virtual participants who want shirts mailed. Walk-up registration is also available for an additional $5 per entry type. For more information, visit acfb.org.
