Julius Baer Group today announced significant changes to its Board of Directors, effective at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). Richard Campbell-Breeden has decided not to seek re-election and will step down as Vice Chairman, with Juerg Hunziker poised to succeed him, subject to shareholder re-election. Additionally, Urban Angehrn has agreed to join the Board as an independent non-executive Director.
Sir Noel Quinn, Chairman of the Board, expressed deep gratitude to Campbell-Breeden for his eight years of service, highlighting his leadership in recruiting a new CEO and Chairman. “Richard led the process to recruit a new CEO and Chairman of Julius Baer. Having successfully completed both additions and ensured a smooth transition, he has now decided that it is the right time for him to step down as Vice Chairman and retire from the Board at our 2026 AGM,” Quinn said.
Juerg Hunziker, who brings 40 years of technology and financial services experience, will take on the Vice Chairman role. Quinn noted, “Since I became Chairman, I have seen first-hand the value of Juerg’s 40 years of technology and financial services knowledge, both internationally and in Switzerland, as well as his experience as a CEO building high-quality customer-focused organisations.” Hunziker’s appointment ensures the Board maintains permanent senior representation in Switzerland, a critical growth market and headquarters for Julius Baer.
The Board also welcomed Urban Angehrn, former CEO of FINMA and former Group Chief Investment Officer at Zurich Insurance Group. With over 30 years of financial services experience, Angehrn brings expertise in investment management, risk management, and regulation. Quinn stated, “Urban brings extensive experience in investment management and risk management within large and complex organisations, along with a great understanding of global financial markets, regulation, and corporate governance. I am confident that he will further strengthen the Board’s oversight of the business and experience of financial services in Switzerland.”
These changes underscore Julius Baer’s commitment to strong governance and deep local expertise in its home market. The appointments are subject to shareholder approval at the AGM, with further details on Board and committee composition to be provided in the AGM circular published in March.
