LION E-Mobility AG, a manufacturer of battery packs for electric mobility and energy storage solutions, has announced that its CEO, Dr. Joachim Damasky, will retire at the end of January 2027 and step down from the Board of Directors. The timing of the announcement, reported via NEWMEDIAWIRE, matters because Damasky's departure comes at a pivotal moment for the Swiss-listed company, which has just completed a restructuring and begun delivering its first own series battery to customers.
During his three-year tenure, Damasky led the development and modernisation of LION's NMC+ battery platform, bringing the company's first proprietary battery to series maturity and demonstrating its capabilities as an original equipment manufacturer. Production of NMC+ packs resumed at the end of June 2026 following a plant conversion, and LION is now delivering those packs to customers. By the time Damasky leaves, the NMC+ production line is to be fully automated, a milestone the company views as critical to scaling output and improving efficiency.
The leadership change also follows a financial turnaround. In 2025, LION's revenue rose by 68% to EUR 28.3 million, while EBITDA reached EUR 7.5 million. Those figures underscore how far the company has come under Damasky, and they raise the stakes for his successor, who will need to sustain that momentum while completing the automation of the production line and broadening the customer base. The NMC+ packs are designed for demanding applications across e-mobility, industrial uses and safety-critical segments, including defence, which suggests LION is targeting higher-margin markets as it scales.
Beyond battery packs, LION has expanded its battery energy storage (BESS) business. The first construction phase of the Finsterwalde BESS project has been completed, and the project pipeline continues to grow. The company's stated goal is to become the leading system integrator for battery systems in Germany and Europe, an ambition that will now be tested under new operational leadership. Going forward, the operational business will be managed by a new Managing Director of the German subsidiaries LION Smart GmbH and LION Smart Production GmbH, who will be announced shortly. Damasky will remain in office until January 2027 to ensure a smooth transition and will continue to be available to LION as an adviser thereafter.
Ian Mukherjee, Chairman of the Board of Directors, credited Damasky with leading LION through its restructuring and bringing NMC+ into production, adding that the board is pleased he will complete the automation of the line and remain available as an adviser. Damasky said NMC+ is in production and the line will be fully automated by the end of January, giving the team, together with the BESS business, a strong foundation for the next steps. He also thanked colleagues and investors for their commitment and trust.
For investors and industry observers, the transition highlights both the progress LION has made and the execution risks that lie ahead. The company's shares are listed in Munich, Frankfurt and Hamburg, and further details are available through the original release. How smoothly LION installs its new Managing Director and completes the automation of NMC+ will be a key indicator of whether the gains of the past three years can be sustained.
