MelGeek Centauri Series Review: A Premium Hall Effect Custom Keyboard Bridging Gaming and Enthusiast Craftsmanship

MelGeek has launched its new flagship keyboard series, the Centauri60 and Centauri80, aiming to bridge the gap between gaming-oriented magnetic keyboards and enthusiast custom builds. The series integrates a nearly 2-inch OLED touchscreen with 325 PPI and a 60Hz refresh rate, driven by a dedicated display processor to avoid impacting keyboard performance. The screen offers a layered control architecture, with the first layer for aesthetic wallpapers and the second for a core status dashboard showing configuration profiles and virtual keys. Next to the screen, a "Super Dock" knob allows volume adjustment, song switching, lighting effects, or one-touch commands, seamlessly integrated for quick operation.

Under the hood, the Centauri employs a distributed system with one master and five slave chips, each processing data for its own zone to improve responsiveness. Intelligent dynamic scanning technology, combined with fourth-generation Hall effect sensors, adapts to typing habits, speeding up response during fast typing and conserving power when idle. Two patented technologies enhance reliability: Anti-Interference Magnetic Shielding reduces cross-key magnetic noise, and a Water Ingress Alert system monitors the main PCB for liquid intrusion, activating an alarm to prevent damage. The TTC Flip King magnetic white switches provide a smooth feel and firm feedback.

The typing experience is further refined by a five-layer sound system and a flexible gasket mount, ensuring each keystroke feels soft and produces a solid sound. The Centauri80 offers a deeper, more resonant tone, while the Centauri60 delivers a crisper pitch. The keyboard features a soft, three-sided surround light effect with 16 million colors and customizable zones, creating a floating appearance on the desktop. MelGeek's redesigned Hive software suite ties together the OLED interface, lighting zones, macros, switch functions, and Super Dock controls, making adjustments straightforward.

Founded in 2014, MelGeek has focused on balancing design, construction, and advanced features. The Centauri series targets users seeking a premium upgrade from standard gaming keyboards, offering the speed and stability of magnetic switches for gamers and a refined typing experience with practical screen controls for creators.
