NOMAD Power Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: NMAD), through its wholly owned subsidiary NOMAD Transportable Power Systems, Inc., has received authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity to advance into Phase 3 of the approximately $19 million Vermont Long Duration Energy Storage Demonstration Project. This phase will move the project into installation, integration, and construction, with plans to deploy up to eight NOMAD transportable battery energy storage systems across five sites in Green Mountain Power’s Vermont service territory.
The project is supported by a $9.5 million DOE award and an approximately 50% non-federal cost share, underscoring the collaborative effort between public and private sectors to advance energy storage technologies. Green Mountain Power has already utilized an existing NOMAD system for peak management and to maintain service to commercial customers during planned utility maintenance, demonstrating the practical value of transportable storage in real-world operations.
NOMAD’s patented platform is designed to be moved among locations to support peak management, emergency response, maintenance, renewable energy integration, and other grid-resilience applications. Phase 3 will incorporate the company’s latest platform, including next-generation lithium iron phosphate batteries and microgrid-enabled controls, as NOMAD works to demonstrate transportable energy storage as a flexible resource for utilities and other critical power users.
The advancement into Phase 3 is a critical milestone for NOMAD as it validates the viability of transportable energy storage systems in enhancing grid reliability and resilience. The project's success could pave the way for broader adoption of mobile battery storage across North America, offering a rapid and scalable solution to utilities facing increasing demands for flexibility and emergency preparedness.
