World Publishing Company has announced the forthcoming publication of Nuzhat Classic Recipes, Volume One: The Stories Behind the Recipes, a cookbook by author and lifelong home cook Nuzhat Ahmed. The collection features 29 classic South Asian dishes and is organized into seven sections: Lamb & Beef, Chicken, Vegetables, Fish & Seafood, Rice, Breads, and Desserts. It includes everyday favorites such as Aloo Gosht, Qeema Matar, and Palak Aloo, alongside celebratory dishes like Chicken Chargha, Badami Qorma, Chicken Biryani, and Zarda rice.
Each recipe provides a complete ingredient list, step-by-step instructions, serving suggestions, and practical cooking tips, making the book accessible for home cooks seeking dependable recipes that combine traditional flavors with approachable techniques. What distinguishes this collection is its emphasis on the stories behind the dishes. Readers will encounter memories of a grandmother preparing Badami Qorma in the style of royal kitchens, a father's kitchen mishap that became a treasured family story, a London wedding where Rogan Josh was mistaken for spoiled qorma, and a mother who used homemade Firni to encourage her children to complete their chores.
"Some recipes are more than food — they are vessels for memory, carrying the voices, gestures and love of the people who made them," Ahmed writes. "Sometimes a recipe is not just about the ingredients — it is about the person who taught you what home cooking tastes like." The book also features home-friendly versions of Chicken Tikka Masala, White Chicken Kadhai, Reshmi Kebab, Carrot Halva, Mango Kulfi, Gulab Jamun, and Classic Summer Pudding, with practical shortcuts to help busy cooks.
The publication matters because it addresses a growing interest in preserving culinary heritage and family memories. By pairing recipes with personal narratives, Ahmed elevates home cooking from mere instruction to a form of cultural storytelling. This approach resonates with readers who value authenticity and connection, and it offers families a way to document and pass down their own food traditions. Volume One is the first installment in a planned three-volume collection, with Volumes Two and Three to follow, signaling a sustained effort to archive South Asian home cooking for future generations.
Ahmed's background lends credibility to the project. She completed her early education in Karachi, trained as a teacher in London, and has lived in England for nearly 30 years while maintaining a strong connection to the flavors and culinary memories that shaped her. Her cooking was recognized in 2012 when she won a competition featured on MTV and was profiled in the Newham Recorder. Having published her first cookbook in 2009, she now begins a new chapter with Nuzhat Classic Recipes. For Ahmed, home cooking should be approachable, satisfying, and full of flavor — and every meal is an opportunity to share joy.
