Opawica Explorations Inc. (TSXV: OPW) (OTCQB: OPWEF) has announced a comprehensive exploration update for its 100%-owned Arrowhead Gold Property, located in the prolific Abitibi Greenstone Belt of Quebec. The company has secured drill permits for 25 drill-pad locations and outlined a strategy for approximately 10,000 metres of high-priority drilling, marking a significant milestone in the property's evolution. This next phase is designed to systematically test high-priority targets generated from one of the most comprehensive modern geological datasets assembled over the property, while also evaluating the continuity, extensions, and potential depth of known gold mineralization.
Arrowhead's strategic location adjacent to Agnico Eagle Mines Limited's producing LaRonde Complex—which has produced over eight million ounces of gold since 1988—underscores the property's potential. However, mineralization on adjacent properties is not necessarily indicative of mineralization at Arrowhead. The property itself boasts a rich exploration history dating back approximately a century, including prospecting, trenching, underground workings, diamond drilling, and extensive sampling. Historical work reported high-grade gold values, including approximately 45.05 g/t Au and chip samples up to 90.75 g/t Au over 1.0 metre. While these historical results have not been independently verified, they highlight the property's longstanding recognition as a gold-bearing system.
What sets Arrowhead apart today is the integration of modern geological information layered over this historical mineralization. Opawica has already completed its inaugural modern drill program in 2022, consisting of 4,306 metres across 14 holes, which successfully confirmed gold mineralization. Notably, 11 holes intersected gold zones grading greater than 1.0 g/t Au along a one-kilometre strike length. Selected results included 18.7 g/t Au over 0.35 metres with 0.72% Cu, and 1.52 g/t Au over 14.8 metres, with broader anomalous zones extending up to 29.5 metres. The drilling identified gold in two principal settings: shear zones with quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins within mafic volcanic rocks, and mineralized felsic tuffs containing quartz-tourmaline veining.
Following the 2022 campaign, nine target zones remained untested, and the upcoming program aims to address these gaps. The company has leveraged advanced techniques, including artificial-intelligence-assisted targeting and 3D geological modelling, to refine its approach. The planned drilling will focus on high-priority targets that could significantly expand the known mineralization and potentially lead to resource definition. Opawica's management believes that Arrowhead's combination of historical high-grade occurrences, modern drill-confirmed mineralization, geophysical and seismic datasets, and its location in an established producing district represents a compelling exploration opportunity.
