Parker Publishers to Release Memoir by Retired Sacramento Officer on Life After Policing

Parker Publishers has announced the upcoming release of Between Sirens and Silence: Life After Policing, a memoir by Jason Palmi, a retired Sacramento Police Department officer and criminal justice educator. The book, scheduled for November 4, 2026, chronicles his 31-year career and the challenges of transitioning to life after the badge.

Drawing from his extensive experience in patrol, the academy, and the department's Emergency Vehicle Operations Center, Palmi provides a candid look at the daily realities of police work and the cumulative toll it can take. The narrative follows a familiar arc for many in the profession: an initial sense of calling, a period of burnout and disengagement, and ultimately a rediscovery of purpose. The title reflects the silence that follows not only retirement but also the end of each shift, when officers return home and try to set aside the day's events.

The book is aimed at a broad audience, including officers who have lost their footing in the job, those considering a career in law enforcement, and the families who share the burden. Palmi emphasizes the importance of a support system and credits his faith as a key factor in navigating the difficult years. His story offers hope and practical insights for those feeling trapped in a job they once loved.

After retiring from the Sacramento Police Department in 2017, Palmi moved to Montgomery, Texas, where he earned a master's degree from Sam Houston State University. He has since taught criminal justice at Sacramento City College and Sam Houston State, where he continues to educate the next generation of criminal justice professionals.

In his own words, Palmi says, "I wrote this book with the hope of helping those who wake up dreading a job they once loved and feeling trapped, believing they have no alternative but to be miserable." He shares his personal experiences with burnout, self-doubt, and career dissatisfaction, offering an honest account of transformation through self-reflection and personal growth. The book encourages readers to challenge their self-imposed limitations, step beyond comfort zones, and recognize that success is often shaped by mindset, choices, and the courage to change.

Between Sirens and Silence: Life After Policing will be available in eBook, paperback, and hardback formats through Amazon and Ingram Spark. The book provides a realistic perspective on the rewards and challenges of a law enforcement career, making it a valuable resource for anyone seeking to understand the human side of policing and the journey to renewed purpose after service.
