Photographer Kristin Milito Expands Into Business Training for Struggling Photographers

Kristin Milito, the founder of Kristin Milito Photography, is expanding her role from studio owner to educator with a second run of her live online business training for photographers, scheduled for October 20 to 22, 2026. The three-day program, called From Overlooked to Booked, follows an initial session held September 22 to 24. The move signals a broader shift for Milito, who has spent 13 years building a half-million-dollar newborn and maternity portrait business in Glenview, Illinois, just outside Chicago.

Milito's decision to teach reflects a common frustration among photographers: despite their talent, many are not getting booked. According to Milito, photographers often respond to slow inquiries by shooting more, posting more, and lowering their prices, with little change in results. She identifies three underlying causes: an unclear niche, an inconsistent portfolio, and a social media profile that fails to turn visits into inquiries. The October program is built around those areas.

"I see so many talented photographers doing everything they've been told to do and still not succeeding," Milito says. "With live coaching instead of just being told what to do, they can finally start getting booked."

The live sessions run at 12pm CT inside a private Facebook group and last about an hour, with one topic per day. Day one covers niche selection and why generalist photographers can find it harder to stand out. Day two focuses on portfolio consistency and how individual images can discourage the clients a photographer wants to attract. Day three addresses social media profiles, including bios, calls to action, and how profile visits turn into inquiries. Recordings are emailed to registrants who cannot attend live.

Milito's own studio serves as a case study. She picked up a camera after having her own children and now works with a team of associate photographers, still meeting every client personally for their ordering appointment. Her safety-first approach to newborn and maternity portraiture has earned her recognition: she is a featured member of the National Association of Portrait and Child Photographers, holds mastery certificates in baby and family photography, and was named one of the best Chicago newborn photographers by Expertise each year from 2021 through 2024. Her competition work has earned multiple honors in the AFNS Award, an international newborn and maternity photography competition.

The October sessions are free to attend. Photographers can register through the program page. By sharing the business methods she uses weekly in her own studio, Milito aims to help photographers move from being overlooked to booked, addressing a gap in practical business education that many creatives face. The program underscores a growing trend of successful studio owners diversifying into education, leveraging their real-world experience to mentor others.
