PXG has introduced the next evolution of its Secret Weapon Mini Driver, a compact 300cc club designed to offer driver-like distance with the control of a fairway wood. The new model incorporates technologies from PXG's Lightning lineup, including a face more than 4 percent thinner than its predecessor, refined internal sole structure, and optimized weighting. According to the company, these changes generate faster ball speeds and tighter dispersion, addressing a common trade-off for golfers who struggle with consistency off the tee.
The thinner face allows greater deflection at impact, improving energy transfer and expanding the sweet spot. PXG engineers used finite element analysis to reinforce the sole structure, redistributing saved mass to the perimeter to increase moment of inertia. This resistance to twisting helps preserve distance and directional control on off-center strikes. A lightweight carbon fiber crown further lowers and deepens mass placement. "The thinner face and refined sole structure work together," said Caleb Kroloff, PXG Director of Woods Research & Development. "We reinforced the areas that needed support and moved saved weight to the perimeter. That helps us deliver more speed with more consistent performance when golfers miss the center of the face."
PGA TOUR professional Jake Knapp, who had the original Secret Weapon in his bag, endorsed the new version. "The original Secret Weapon was my favorite club in the bag, so I had high expectations for this one," Knapp said. "I absolutely love it. It has everything I liked about the original, with more speed and forgiveness. Putting it in the bag was an easy decision." His early adoption signals potential tour validation, which could influence recreational golfers seeking a reliable alternative to drivers and fairway woods.
The club also features PXG's Precision Weighting Technology, with four adjustable weight locations in the sole (heel, toe, front, and back). Initially equipped with two 7.5-gram and two 2.5-gram weights, it allows golfers to fine-tune shot shape, spin, and swing weight. An adjustable hosel provides additional launch and trajectory control. The Secret Weapon Mini Driver is offered in right- and left-handed configurations with 13 degrees of loft and a standard length of 43.25 inches.
The announcement matters because it reflects a growing demand for versatile clubs that bridge the gap between drivers and fairway woods. By enhancing forgiveness and speed in a compact head, PXG aims to help golfers who prioritize control without sacrificing distance. The integration of adjustable weighting and hosel settings also caters to custom fitting, a core part of PXG's strategy. As the company continues to innovate under founder Bob Parsons' philosophy of marked improvement, the new Secret Weapon could strengthen its position in the premium golf equipment market.
