Quantum BioPharma Advances Lucid-MS Phase 2 Trial with Thermo Fisher Agreement

Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) has entered into a Study Start-Up Agreement (SUA) with the clinical research business of Thermo Fisher Scientific to implement its Phase 2 clinical trial of Lucid-21-302 (Lucid-MS) for multiple sclerosis (MS). The agreement initiates formal study start-up activities following FDA clearance to proceed with the trial. Thermo Fisher will support study start-up and related clinical research services through its PPD™ Clinical Research Business.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 trial will evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of Lucid-MS in people with progressive forms of MS using clinical and radiological endpoints. Lucid-MS is an investigational, first-in-class New Chemical Entity designed to provide neuroprotection by inhibiting demyelination through targeting protein arginine deiminase 2 (PAD2), an enzyme implicated in myelin degradation. This mechanism represents a novel approach to treating MS, which currently has no cure and limited options for progressive forms.

The involvement of Thermo Fisher's PPD clinical research business lends significant operational and scientific credibility to the trial. PPD is a global leader in clinical research services, and its participation suggests that the study will be conducted with high standards of quality and efficiency. For Quantum BioPharma, a small biopharmaceutical company, partnering with such an established contract research organization could accelerate timelines and enhance the likelihood of successful trial execution. This matters because MS affects millions worldwide, and progressive forms of the disease are particularly challenging to treat. A first-in-class therapy that targets an underlying mechanism of myelin degradation could offer a much-needed new option for patients who currently have few effective treatments.

Quantum BioPharma is dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., the company is focused on the research and development of Lucid-MS, which is a patented new chemical entity shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation in preclinical models. The company also invented UNBUZZD™ and retains a significant ownership stake in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., along with royalty rights. However, the advancement of Lucid-MS is the primary value driver for QNTM, and this agreement signals tangible progress toward a potentially transformative therapy.

Investors and industry observers should note that the FDA clearance to proceed, combined with the study start-up agreement, de-risks the early stages of clinical development. The Phase 2 trial will generate critical data on whether Lucid-MS can slow or reverse disability progression in MS patients. Positive results could position Quantum BioPharma as a leader in neuroprotection and attract partnership or acquisition interest from larger pharmaceutical companies. Conversely, any delays or safety concerns could set back the program significantly. Given the high unmet need in progressive MS, the trial's outcomes will be closely watched.
