Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) was featured on the latest episode of The BioMedWire Podcast, where co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz discussed the company's lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, and its commercial product unbuzzd. The podcast highlighted the company's strategic focus on addressing unmet medical needs and expanding its market presence.
Durkacz emphasized that Lucid-MS is being developed to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis by targeting nerve damage, an area he believes remains unmet by currently available treatments. The therapy is designed to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, as shown in preclinical models. Quantum BioPharma is preparing for a Phase 2 clinical trial for Lucid-MS, which will be the first study to evaluate the drug candidate in multiple sclerosis patients following Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers. This trial represents a significant milestone for the company and could potentially offer a new therapeutic option for patients suffering from MS.
In addition to Lucid-MS, Durkacz discussed unbuzzd, a commercial alcohol metabolism product designed to accelerate blood alcohol metabolism. unbuzzd is currently available in the U.S. market and is marketed by Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., a company in which Quantum BioPharma retains a 19.84% ownership stake as of March 31, 2026. The agreement also includes royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments to Quantum total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. Quantum retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products or alternative formulations specifically for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
Quantum BioPharma is dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets and biotech solutions for the treatment of challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., the company is focused on the research and development of Lucid-MS. The company's strategy includes leveraging its patented technology to address significant unmet medical needs while also generating revenue through commercial products like unbuzzd.
The podcast appearance underscores Quantum BioPharma's commitment to advancing its pipeline and communicating its progress to investors and the broader biotech community.
