Sequent, a global leader in cryptographically secured digital election platforms, announced today that it has advanced the implementation of the VoteSecure protocol, an open-source software development kit (SDK) designed to enable end-to-end (E2E) verifiable mobile voting. The milestone comes at a critical time when declining confidence in democratic processes and growing demand for transparency are pressing election administrators worldwide.
The VoteSecure protocol, combined with cryptographic technologies already embedded in Sequent’s platform, addresses concerns about election trust, transparency, and auditability. Its architecture allows voters, election observers, and auditors to verify that every ballot was correctly cast, recorded, and counted, ensuring accurate election results. This level of verifiability goes beyond what traditional paper-based systems can offer.
Developed by Free & Fair, a reputable voting technology research company, VoteSecure was released in November 2025 following 16 months of research aligned with the U.S. Vote Foundation’s “Future of Voting” report. The framework supports multi-factor authentication, biometric identity verification, and air-gapped tabulation—where votes are counted only after being taken offline, with paper printouts generated alongside digital records.

Unlike traditional “black box” election technologies that rely on institutional trust, VoteSecure is built around publicly auditable cryptographic protocols and open-source principles. It incorporates threshold cryptography, verifiable shuffling, zero-knowledge proofs, and air-gapped tabulation to strengthen election integrity while preserving voter privacy. The framework also relies on Rigorous Digital Engineering (RDE), a formal methodology used in critical infrastructure and national security systems.
