SS Innovations International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSII) announced the successful completion of a long-distance cross-border telesurgery spanning more than 4,500 miles, from a surgeon in Perth, Australia, to a patient in Indore, India. The procedure, performed on May 2, 2026, utilized the company's SSi Mantra surgical robotic system and the SSi MantrAsana tele-surgeon console. The demonstration took place during the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress.
Dr. Mohit Bhandari, President of IRCAD India, remotely performed the live telesurgery—a robotic gastrojejunostomy, which creates a new connection between the stomach and the middle small intestine. He operated using the SSi MantrAsana, a compact, chair-based version of the SSi Mantra's surgeon command center designed for portability and telesurgery from various locations, including physician offices. The system is engineered for real-time remote procedures through ultra-low latency connectivity, high-definition visualization, and precise instrument control.
To date, more than 170 telesurgeries, including intricate cardiac procedures, have been performed with the SSi Mantra. The SSi Mantra system is a modular, multi-arm robotic platform featuring 3 to 5 arms, an open-faced ergonomic surgeon console, a large 3D 4K monitor, and virtual real-time imaging. The optional SSi MantrAsana console provides equivalent control with enhanced portability and telesurgery capability. The system supports over 40 types of robotic endo-surgical instruments for specialties including cardiac surgery and pediatrics.
