The Italian Barrel, an intimate Northern Italian restaurant located at 1240 Decatur Street in New Orleans' French Quarter, has been honored with the 2026 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. This award, part of Wine Spectator's 2026 Restaurant Awards, recognizes restaurants that demonstrate a strong commitment to wine through well-curated lists and exceptional service. The Italian Barrel's wine program, which features at least 75 selections with a thematic match to its menu, has earned this prestigious recognition.
Marvin R. Shanken, Chairman and CEO of Wine Spectator, commented on the evolving restaurant industry, stating, "The restaurant industry is rapidly transforming as diners become more selective about when, how and what they drink.
