The Tidbits of Change Foundation has announced the recipients of its 2025 awards, recognizing three Canadian youths who partnered with a parent or mentor on inspiring projects. The awards, which include bursaries ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for post-secondary education, were given to individuals from British Columbia, Ontario, and Alberta.
Amy Attalla of Fernie, B.C., received the 2025 Tidbits of Change Award for founding Sibshops Fernie, a non-profit that provides peer support to siblings of children with special needs. Inspired by her own experience as a sibling of a sister with special needs, Attalla developed workshops where siblings can connect, share experiences, and participate in recreational activities. She worked closely with her older sister Joy and her parents, who brought expertise in special education and camp leadership. The foundation highlighted the remarkable community impact of her initiative.
Sho Kagawa Brooks, a student at Toronto Metropolitan University, received a Youth Inspiration Bursary Award presented by HEAD/Tyrolia for co-founding the Sea to Sky Student Short Film Festival. Brooks and his partners collaborated with a mentor from the Whistler Film Festival and their high school vice-principal to create a platform that empowers student filmmakers. The festival has grown into a significant platform for young storytellers.
Kaelyn Smith of Sherwood Park, Alta., a student at Grant MacEwan University, received a Youth Inspiration Bursary Award presented by Kal Tire for her homelessness outreach efforts with her father. Smith volunteered with organizations such as The Mustard Seed, PAC Mission, and Hope Mission, and plans to expand their work through a project focused on Skid Row in Los Angeles.
Greg Scott, co-founder of the Tidbits of Change Foundation, praised the recipients, noting that their collaborative initiatives have made meaningful impacts in their communities and strengthened their relationships. The foundation encourages others to pursue similar passion projects and is now accepting applications for its 2026 bursaries until April 30, 2026.
