The tokenization of financial assets is shifting from experimentation to commitment, with major institutions embracing blockchain infrastructure. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink expects “every stock, every bond” to eventually settle on a shared, tokenized ledger, and Forbes reports that institutions are moving toward a tokenized market that could reach $13 trillion. While Treasuries and securities have already begun moving on-chain, real-economy assets such as equipment, franchises, real estate, and private credit represent the next wave. However, compliance remains a critical hurdle: any asset carrying securities obligations requires identity verification, transfer restrictions, and regulatory controls embedded directly into the ledger.
TruGolf Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUG) has positioned itself at the forefront of this shift by acquired Polymath Research Inc. and its Layer-1 blockchain, Polymesh, which is purpose-built for regulated assets. The acquisition, completed in October, gives TruGolf a compliant infrastructure layer that addresses the identity and transfer-restriction requirements that have stalled broader tokenization efforts.
Less than a week after closing, TruGolf’s franchise subsidiary, TruGolf Links Franchising, signed an intercompany agreement with Polymath to provide professional services and migrate the TruGolf Links capitalization table onto Polymath’s regulated digital securities infrastructure. This immediate deployment demonstrates the practical application of the technology and signals that TruGolf intends to use tokenization to streamline its own operations while offering similar capabilities to others.
Further extending its reach, Polymath disclosed earlier this month that it is exploring a tokenized film investment platform alongside CineCity Studios. The move would expand TruGolf’s footprint from golf into entertainment finance, highlighting the versatility of the Polymesh blockchain for diverse asset classes.
The implications are significant. By acquiring Polymath, TruGolf now holds a regulated tokenization and digital securities infrastructure that could serve as a foundation for bringing real-world assets onto blockchain rails. This positions the company alongside established players in both the golf industry and the digital asset space, including Robinhood Markets Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD), Circle Internet Group Inc. (NYSE: CRCL), and Acushnet Holdings Corp. (NYSE: GOLF). TruGolf’s ability to integrate compliance into the blockchain layer could accelerate the adoption of tokenized franchises, private credit, and other main street assets, moving the market closer to the $13 trillion projection.
For investors, the development underscores a broader trend: tokenization is no longer confined to Wall Street’s pilot programs but is expanding into tangible, revenue-generating assets. TruGolf’s early deployment with its franchise subsidiary and its exploration of film financing suggest a strategic push to capture a share of this emerging market. As regulatory clarity improves, the company’s infrastructure could become a key enabler for issuers seeking to tokenize assets without sacrificing compliance. The announcement thus marks a notable step in the convergence of traditional finance and blockchain, with TruGolf aiming to bridge the gap between main street businesses and the tokenized economy.
