Ucore Rare Metals Inc. (TSX.V: UCU) (OTCQX: UURAF) has expressed support for its partner Hastings Technology Metals and Wyloo in acquiring a fully permitted mixed rare earth chloride production facility in Thailand. The acquisition is expected to accelerate the near-term processing of monazite feedstock and bolster a Western-aligned rare earth supply chain, according to a press release.
The development comes as Ucore advances discussions toward a long-term supply agreement tied to its Louisiana Strategic Metals Complex (SMC). The company aims to integrate upstream supply with midstream processing and rare earth oxide production capabilities. Ucore's vision includes disrupting China's control of the North American rare earth element (REE) supply chain through the development of processing facilities in Louisiana, Canada, and Alaska, as well as its Bokan-Dotson Ridge project.
The Thailand facility, already permitted, provides a strategic advantage by enabling immediate processing capacity. This move aligns with Ucore's strategy to secure a diversified and secure supply of rare earth materials for Western markets. The company noted that the partnership supports ongoing efforts to establish a reliable supply chain outside of China's dominance.
Ucore Rare Metals is focused on rare and critical metal resources, extraction, beneficiation, and separation technologies. Through partnerships, the company plans to develop heavy and light rare earth processing facilities, starting with the Louisiana SMC. The Bokan project in Southeast Alaska is a longer-term development that could further enhance Ucore's position in the rare earth market.
