Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Secures $1 Million Milestone Payment from Bayer for Iodine Feasibility Study

Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (TSX.V: VM) (OTC Pink: VYYRF) has achieved the first milestone in its non-dilutive Collaboration and Funding Agreement with Bayer AG, securing a USD $1 million payment. The payment follows the approval of a complete feasibility work plan and timetable, confirming technical progress in the company's proprietary Mueller iodine extraction process.

Voyageur's Houston R&D team successfully produced 99.8% purity iodine from Anadarko Basin produced water, validating the technical approach and prompting Bayer to advance the program. The transportable pilot plant is nearing completion and is scheduled to begin field operations this fall. With this milestone, Voyageur has received USD $1.35 million of the USD $2.35 million committed by Bayer, with the remaining USD $1 million to be released upon completion of the FEL-3 feasibility study.

The funding will support Fluor Corporation's engineering work to complete the study. Fluor has been providing engineering, thermodynamic modeling, and project planning, with subsequent phases progressing through FEL-2 and FEL-3 to define a demonstration-scale configuration. The project aims to produce 1,000 tonnes of iodine per year, with a staged rollout beginning at 200 tonnes.

Brent Willis, President and CEO of Voyageur, emphasized the importance of this milestone: "It confirms that the feasibility work is advancing as planned and triggers the first major non-dilutive payment under the collaboration. This capital is expected to further accelerate our iodine supply strategy and move us closer to validating a reliable North American source of high-purity iodine for use in contrast media drugs."

Voyageur's vertically integrated strategy aims to improve supply-chain security and reduce reliance on imported raw materials for contrast media production, a market estimated at approximately USD $7.06 billion. The company plans to leverage near-term barium contrast sales and iodine sales under the Bayer collaboration, along with longer-term opportunities in contrast drug manufacturing.

The global contrast media market's growth underscores the strategic importance of securing a domestic, high-purity iodine source. Voyageur's Frances Creek barium project and planned drug manufacturing capabilities are central to building a secure, vertically integrated supply chain for radiology drugs.

As the feasibility study progresses, Voyageur and Bayer may consider advancing to a second phase, including negotiating a long-term offtake supply agreement. The successful completion of the study could lead to the construction and deployment of additional 200-tonne-per-year units, potentially expanding capacity to 1,000 tonnes per year.

Mr. Willis added: "Voyageur is focused on building multiple potential revenue streams through a staged commercialization strategy. The Bayer collaboration, combined with technical support from Fluor, continues to strengthen the foundation for scalable domestic iodine production."

Voyageur's achievements reflect ongoing technical progress toward establishing a reliable North American iodine supply, which could significantly impact the contrast media industry by reducing dependency on foreign sources and enhancing supply chain resilience.
