The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) has announced that internationally acclaimed Mexican actress and Academy Award nominee Yalitza Aparicio will receive the Georgia Latino Film Alliance Icon Award during the 15th Annual Georgia Latino International Film Festival (GALIFF XV), scheduled for September 30–October 4, 2026, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
The GALFA Icon Award recognizes individuals whose careers and influence have significantly advanced the visibility of Latino culture in film and entertainment. Aparicio, known for her breakthrough role in Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, marking a historic moment for Mexican and Latino representation on the global stage. Her work has transcended cinema, making her a prominent voice for cultural pride and representation.

The award holds additional significance as GALIFF marks its 15th anniversary, with Mexico serving as the Guest Country of Honor. The festival, themed “XV Quinceañera: A Legacy in Motion,” will run from September 30 to October 4, featuring film screenings across Atlanta. The Icon Award will be presented during the opening night ceremony at the historic Fox Theatre.
For 15 years, GALIFF and GALFA have worked to create opportunities for Latino filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals, bridging Georgia’s film scene with the international Latino creative community. The festival is supported by sponsors including the Fox Theatre, Olé Mexican Foods, Fulton Films, and Women in Film and Television Atlanta, among others.
